I am a photography virgin.

By virgin, I mean I have a camera and have not used it, nor taken a picture. I recently bought a Nikon D80. I don't have any lenses for it, and I don't know anything about it. I just wanted to get into photography after finding out my God daughter loves to pose for pictures and I have an obsession for architecture. If anybody has any tips, suggestions, or some noobie education, I'd love to hear it. Btw, my name is Hai, nice to meet you all.

Welcome to TPF!

You can do it, just takes time and effort, just like anything else worthwhile.

There is a ton of reading available, lots of information online, as well as any number of classes you could take locally, then you have the backup of members here willing to answer questions for you, especially once you have made some effort to find out on your own.

What kind of camera was it that you used?

Finally, I'd like to give you some help. Some members of this forum suggested the book Understanding Exposure by Brian Peterson to me. I've been reading it and it's helped me immensely. You'd do good to check it out.

You previously posted that you just purchased a pair of used lenses, and that one was 70mm,

I believe that pair means two, so the other lens we are asking about might be the lens that is not the 70mm.

Boy, that was tough....

Whatever a 70mm lens is anyhow.
