I want to darken the edges. I really would like there to be almost an oval border of darkness or contrast.

That's exactly what I wanted. How did you do it, and is there any way to bring the contrast closer to the center?

What software are you using, I just added vignette in PS. I am not sure what you mean by "bring the contrast closer to center".
