Well if you read my other two threads. I have an ingrown toenail. I got an appointment to see a specialist last month. The specialist put me on the waiting list to have the nail partially removed.

Sooo I got a call this morning from the hospital, to say they had a free appointment on monday (19 Dec.), would I like it? Sure I say.

Now, for the fun part.

Being Christmas week, and working in retail... I was due to work Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights (we open for late night shopping coming up to christmas).

Well. We forgot to ask about the recovery time. We figured 3 days would probably be about right...

1 day to get over the anisthetic (sp?) and the other two to let it heal a bit. I have to wear closed in shoes for work, and I thought it would probably best to give my foot a bit of an "air-out" for a couple of days.

Sooooo I called work to inform them I couldn't work Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday nights.

The lady directly incharge of the lab wasn't too worried (I think because she knows that she doesn't have to deal with it anyway). So I spoke to the manager too, and he is S-H-I-T-T-Y!

You see, the problem is, I am the only casual for our lab. Therefore, they NEEDED me to work those days, as there is no one else who can do it (everyone else have contracted hours).

So I am just little miss popular at work right now.

But hey, they haven't done much for me lately (the store that is, the lab staff are nice, but I don't really like the manager).

I probably could have let this appointment go and waited for another - but I don't know when that would be. I was originally told months. But we assume someone went, ohhh, cant have an operation that close to christmas.

I decided also to take the appointment, because I don't want to be put out by work. Work have bent over backwards (so it seems) to make my life hard. Which I know the whole thing wasn't *lets not employ staff to annoy her*. But they haven't gone out of their way to find staff.

Which means I have been doing sundays on my own now for a few months. Even though I told them at the beginning - I will not do it on my own at christmas. But here we are at christmas - still no staff...

So - I am hoping they will realise this big problem they have.

Phew - big vent over. Feel free to comment. I know that wasn't structure. But I just had to tell you all

Please pray for me (lol) on monday. The information sheets say I can die from this operation.

OH MY GOD!!! ARE YOU MY AUSTRAILIAN COUNTERPART???? I'm going through a VERY similar situation with my work!!!! (I also work at a retail place where I work in a photo lab). My fellow employees ROCK, but my boss, as yours has, has bent over backward to make my life hell! I've done SO much for them, and they've done nothing for me! I've been with them for FIVE YEARS! So, I'm putting my two weeks in when I go to work on Friday. I'm excited. I can't wait. :) :D

As for your surgery...I'm thinking that any surgery where they put you to sleep there is the slim possibility of death. Have you ever had any kind of surgery? I've had five, (plus a few that were really minor)...some were somewhat major (not heart/brain surgery major)...and I'm still alive. I'm sure you'll be fine. Don't fret too much. :)

Weird thing that happened to me....one of my knee surgeries, as the anesthesia wore off, I woke up laughing. I have no idea what I was laughing about, but I woke up laughing. The next year, I had the same surgery on the other knee...that one sucked...I woke up in tons of pain, and I woke up crying. Strange, eh?

Anyway...it'll be ok. You'll be fine. :):

awww thanks :)

Maybe I am your aussie counter part?

I won't be quitting just yet. But if I don't get into my course next year, I will be looking for another job.

One thing that happened, on sunday, we started trading until 6pm (for christmas - we usually close at 4)... We have a sign that says no one hour's - cause it is FAR too busy to do them when I am on my own all day...

Anyway - the boss comes up at the end of the day and says "What is that sign doing up?" I was like "UMM HELLO! It is currently 5PM. I STILL haven't finished the printing that was due at lunchtime today. And I have NO DOUBT that today's printing WILL NOT be finished!"

And he said "well still, you are supposed to call me and tell me if you are putting that sign up, so I can come down and get angry about it"

I was almost in tears afterwards, because I thought, I just busted my arse all day, and took all sorts of abuse, because they won't hire more staff, and then he comes and speaks to me like that...

I used to enjoy my job (have been there 2 years now), but in the last few months, since they started making me work on my own on sundays, I have almost quit A LOT of times...

One time was bad, and I broke down crying from the stress - they just don't get it.

Grrr. Stupid work
