Well I am going to get an insurance rider for my camera and lense, soon to be lenses, but they want a description from the camera manufactor describing my camera with a letterhead of Canon. How do I get this?

Maybe a sales advertisement, or flyer? Or a tech sheet from Canon's web site? Just a thought.

Bet they'll back off on the requirement the description be on Canon letterhead. A receipt showing the item description (eg "Canon Rebel xti DSLR camera and 18-200 zoom lens",) and price is usually enough, but you could probably print off something from online that gives a description of the items. [My insurer wanted serial numbers as well - I can't recall if they were already on the receipt].

Is it the case that you don't have a purchase receipt (eg Ebay or pawn shop purchase), and that's why they want an item description?

If you have the receipt or description, send that to them and tell them that it's good enough...or you will take your business elsewhere.

Make sure your insurance will replace the current equivalent of your camera and not just the money. Otherwise by the time you factor in deductibles and premiums you'll probably come up short. JAT:er:

Yes, replacement cost is the big thing. With digital bodies being upgraded and older models dropping like a rock in value, replacement cost is a must.
