Seen 2 filters for sale, one is Infrared R72 @ £25 and the other is Infrared Rm90 @ £240, what is the difference between them that justifies such a difference in price. I ask as i am new to photography and well if i don't ask i won't know heh!

    Cheers.

The R72 only lets through IR rays above 720nm, whereas the RM90 passes those above 900nm.

The RM90 appears to be a specialist filter for forensics and medical type photography: http://www.hoya-online.co.uk/lst80.htm

What I suppose I should have said is that the RM90 is more infrared than the R72 and will have a greater effect and a longer exposure.

With a 50mm prime (which I've read accepts infrared filters and shots decently) and a 350D and a patient, long exposure....would a 72 produce that desirable infrared "look"?

My guess that with the 350D you would want to use the R72, since the hot mirror filters out IR. Using the widest range of IR will help make sure that as much as possible gets to the sensor.

The R72 filters out visible light, so you should still get the IR look.
