I have a rebel xt and am looking to go wider and dont want to buy a lens that I cant take with me to my full frame later on. Is the 17mm wide enough on a crop senser for architecture? There are tons of really old catholic churches I am interested in shooting and the widest lens I own is my 28-90 film kit lens from my elan 7. I know I am coming into some money and am going to get this lens anyway, but I would like to know if I should be planning on something wider also? Any input is appreciated, thanks!

It's hard for us to know if it will be wide enough for you.

Personally, 17mm on a crop sensor isn't wide enough...that's why I have the 10-22mm...but of course, that lens isn't meant for full frame (although it can be used, with some modifications and some vignetting).

You will probably need a dedicated wide angle. The sigma 10-20 is best for cross brands, I have the 16-85, and stitch panos in CS4 if I need wider.

thanks guys, I think I might try my hand at pano's if I want wider.
