The D40 have the EN-EL9 Lithium-ion Battery while the D3000 have the EN-EL9a Lithium-ion Battery, I'm assuming they are the same?

It should be able to work with the d3000. I went to amazon and typed in d3000 battery and they had the Opteka one and it said it works withe the d40,d3000,d60,d40x, and d5000. If that is correct then you should be fine. GL

According to the manual they are backwards compatible with the D40 batteries. I don't know if the D3000 batteries will work in a D40 though.

Thanks guys, it would help if they are mutually compatible. Anyone has both or has access to both?
