We had a backyard visitor today, too. A little different from who came to Lensmeister's, but quite photogenic, too. Had to take several close-ups...

Wow!! the detail is brilliant. Were these hand held or on a tripod?

Handheld. Me lying flat on my stomach in what calls itself "our lawn" (and is mostly moss, as you can see). I cranked the ISO up to 800 for these, at f29 for enough dof, and could still take them at 1/160, which is a kind shutter speed for the fully extended macro lens (300mm all pulled out, macro switch and then... focus-focus-focus).

There's nothing wrong with moss, I keep telling my clients that its green and easier to look after than grass :)

Ooops, my fotki-demo version ran out and I can now no longer hotlink from fotki (so it has become useless to me), so I reloaded them into Photobucket... now they are back up, but in the typical - notorious for Photobucket - "varying sizes" ...

Really impressive from a 300mm, very well done indeed, i wish i could get that much out of that kind of lens. Bet your elbows and knees were kind of green to afterwards ;). Well done on the iso, i think you got a whole lot out of a difficult situation.

thanks for posting them (finally :)).
