JPEG vs RAW

Besides the editing, what are the advantages of shooting in RAW vs JPEG?

Depending on what YOU will do with the files, shooting RAW can actually have a major disadvantage. It does take a bit of effort to work with and, should you choose not to do so, the image will not be as vibrant as the jpg created by your camera.
 
One last question.......when you convert the RAW files to JPEG (I am using the Nikon software) do you loose any quality? If so is there anyway to avoid the quality loss?
 
With ViewNX you can choose lossless conversion. You're .jpg file will still be 10-11mb though.
