On a Nikon camera the settings "PMAS" are to me obvious as to what they stand for - program, manual, aperture priority and shutter priority.

Now, what does Av, Tv etc stand for on a Canon?

It's on Canon's? - Must stand for AudioVisual and TeleVision then. It probably functions as a complete home entertainment system
