keyboard shortcuts not working in CS3/Bridge

I am new to digital photography and I am reading a book by Scott Kelby and he talks about a short cut to move images from bridge to camera raw by (cntrl -r) on the photo. When I do this nothing happens. I looked up shortcuts on the net and it shows this as being a valid shortcut. Why wouldn't it be working on my computer? Vista Prem the puter is about 2 months old, laptop, HP Pavillion.
