Perfectly viable way to shoot this. The water looks really great. It's more interesting to me than a frozen, 1/2500 second look would have been.
 
Exactly, Derrel. I can shoot the others all day long and while there is something to be said for a shower of spray coming off the top of a wave when they get air, making the shot is a practical no-brainer. I have hundreds of them. Making this shot or the one I'm enclosing with this response, ah, a horse of a very different color. The posted shot is at 1/15th of a sec, ISO 64, F:/25, while the repsonse shot is at 1/20th which I think between the two might be the sweet spot for making the exposures both vibrant and sharp. Shot with a D810 and a Tamron 150-600. Both shots are pretty close to full frame.
