Photos OK to edit
Just wondering what you people thought of this picture. I took it on a miserable whale-watching trip when I was at Laguna Beach.

All critiques and commentaries appreciated!

uhm, what did you do to that link?

My apologies, please close this thread.

HERE IT IS! :D
This is not my photo, this is the photo that scrutiny1 wanted to make shown:

And what kind of critique/critisism do you wish for for this particular photo now, scrutiny, could you explain, else I must move it to the General Gallery.

Unfortunately this picture doesn't do too much for me. Foggy, misty days are romantic to people because there are all sorts of allusions that spring to peoples' minds but the camera doesn't catch those mental notes and must rely on something in the image to carry the idea to the viewer.

The buoy is too much in the center and there is nothing much of interest, tension or drama in the shot. Nothing is crisp and sharp to serve as the focus for the eye and yet there isn't too much of contrasting contours to enchant the eye.

Good try, but a miss for me.
Sorry.

I have to agree with The_Traveler. I see what you were going for, but the shot doesn't "pop" yet. For one thing, the buoy seems underexposed. The shoreline has no detail, and there's not much happening with the water, so out attention is forced to the buoy - but it's hard to see, and it is ultimately not that interesting.

EDIT: I just squinted at it for a while, and realized those might be seals at the bottom. That should be cleary visible, but isn't. I wish they were doing something, like jumping in the water, or doing some kind of territorial defending, but they just look like they're sun-bathing. It's hard to get animals to perform, which is why nature photography is so hard.

Good luck, keep shooting.

Please note my comments regarding this shot in your other thread.

Just merged the two threads...

For the record, this was done with a sony cybershot point-and-shoot. Is there anything I could do to make this picture better?
