I'm very confident in my analysis but it's really just an opinion. You're quite right without market research I've got nothing.
You're also right about the big jump in price between FF and MF. It does all come down ultimately to utility to the users (yay economics *yuk*).
I guess this would be different 2 years ago, or in 2 years when we're not in an economic recession but I still think that people prepared to buy into a larger film format may not be prepared to buy into a larger digital format if the camera will quite clearly cost more than $5000
