Lens or Camera

Hi,

I have a d5100 and I like shooting sports, Moto cross, rallying and such like I would also like to do more nature. I was thinking of getting a 70-300 but would it be wasted on the camera body I have. I currently have a 55-200 so would I be just something a bit better.

Would I be better to just hold though on the camera body or the choice of lens. If considering the body I would be going to the 7xxxx.

I'm not a Nikon guy but I do shoot sports. To me it is about 2 things: 1) frames per second and 2) fast glass.

The 70-300 will give you more "reach" in a crop sensor but I believe that it is a variable aperture. I don't think it would necessarily wasted on your current body.

There are Nikon people here that will be able to offer suggestions that are more informed than I am.

I'd go with the 70-300. Yes, variable aperture, but that's not a big deal these days. As an added bonus, it's a full-frame lens, so if you ever decide to dip your toes into FX water...........
