Lens recommendation please!

Hi, Im looking to get my first telephoto zoom lens. Being very new to photography, I can't see (being honest, can't afford) a high end lens. Im looking at the Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM lens for my XTi. It seems to be an affordable entry lens. Does any have this lens, and do you like it's quality? I've seen them used around 100-150 range. Just hoping someone who has or had this lens in the past could give me their thoughts.

for quite a while on my xsi (and later on my 50d until i got the 70-200 2.8 is) with great results actually. at $124 its a very nice bargain.

here's a couple images i got last year on the 50d:

first two were @ 300mm, and the last was at 114mm.
