Hey all! I've got an upcoming event which I have been asked to photograph and I'm in need of a fast tele-zoom lens. I've already talked to my Local Camera Shop about renting a 70-200 f 2.8 IS, Just wondering If I'm getting hosed on the rental price. What should one expect to pay for a two day rental? Deposit? Your help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Well, I've never rented a lens before, but I have rented other stuff from the local Calumet store (they're a big pro-photography chain), and their rental catalog lists the price for the 70-200 2.8 L (non-IS) as $30USD per day, or $90 per week. That sounds like a decent price to me. I suppose the IS version might go for a little more if they had one. I hope that helps.

The deposit is usually the cost of the lens new, so probably around $1700.

I use www.westphoto.com for all my rentals. They have the rates online. 1 day rate covers the entire weekend. I pay 25 for most lenses and 75 for an extra 20d body if need be.
