I postioned the sweets on a piece of Black acrylic plastic to create a reflection. Your opinions would be very much appreciated ...

There are four reasons why I dislike this shot:

1.) The acrylic plastic has some strange marks on it (I think it is the result of post-processing).

2.) The arrangement of candy. It seems like there is too much of it. Try taking a picture of three or four pieces.

3.) There is a purple glow around lots of the pieces of candy (there is a word for this effect, I have forgotten it).

4.) The whole shot isn't focus. I would like it better if the candy in the background was in focus too.

Sorry for being critical. :/

The purple glow snaremop is refering to is 'chromatic aberration'

I agree on several notes, to many candies, and not enough depth of field. It also looks slightly oberexposed.
Personally, the reflection doesn't bother me, it adds a little bit of depth and perspective to the image.

Like Peanut's the reflection doesn't bothr me at all. I like it.
As has been said the shot is over exposed a bit and is a bit busy.

Why not try fewer sweets and play with DOF?
A symmetrical pattern and play with the reflection?

I also think the purple fringing is more obvious on smaller, lower resolution compacts. At least I've found that to be the case in my experience although you don't say what camera you shot this with.
