Thought it would have a better effect in B&W instead of colour
IMO, these are lacking in contrast.
i played around with the contrast before de-saturating it. i think i will have to play around with it after too...
Do not desaturate- it gives you flatter images..

Any of these are better than desaturating.
My hunch is that this image doesn't have enough tonal range to convert well.
Why not post the original?

Is the second attempt at the contrast better than the first??
It looks to me like there is too little tonal variation in the church walls to make a decent conversion.
As you can see from the histogram on the picture below, the church itself is missing a lot of needed contrast.
With the other building in the picture , I don't think that even the greatest amount of tweaking will help this too much.
