I'm new at all the photo editing so how would I get this picture to 'pop' more? How would I get the red to stand out more?

with your edit you made it stand out more for sure. could you do it without the black corners? i would do some curve adjustment or increase brightness and a bit more color saturation.

how do you like it? the cropping helped. are you working from a raw file?

Yeah i do. yeah, i just took the file from my first edit and cropped it. The only photo editing software that i have is "KodakEasy Share Software" :meh:

i haven't used that software, i am sure it covers the basics. it looked to me also that your last edit had less res. so edit from the original.
