Nikon D200 & Nikkor AF-S 18 - 70 mm Zoom Len for $900. He says it's just like new and only been used a few times for studio work. Is this a good deal? and if you have a d200 how do you like it?

    I have a D40 now.

The D200 was $599 brand new at Best Buy a couple weeks ago so I don't think so. You can probably get that setup new for about the same (or less).

I had the D200 and liked it very much with the exception of the battery life and low light performance (or lack thereof).

I've had the D40, D80, D200 and D90 - D40 is a nice camera, what is your reason for changing bodies if I may ask? Is there something the D40 doesn't have that you feel you need?

Not a fantastic deal. The D200 has been taken out of the Nikon line and is no longer manufactured. That said, bestbuy.com was sellling them online for $600 for the last couple months brand new (although not right now). So I'm guessing they won't be the only retailer trying to clean their shelves of them. Plus that lens is just a basic zoom. You could easily opt for the 18-55mm VR used for around $150. You lose a few mm in focal length but there is no reason to pay that guys markup on a slow, basic lens. I'd say wait and pay close attention to the online camera dealers sales.

No. Offer him 700 for it. 550 without the lens if he is willing to split it up. Referencing the BestBuy.com offer is irrelevant as they no longer have any of the bodies in stock. However do some searching on eBay and you'll see what the going rate of "used" D200 bodies are.

If you have that much money burning a hole in your pocket, get the D90.

I was going to recommend the 1DMk3 but I figured I should probably hold off. :)
