Looking at the baby

I got started on this image that was badly backlit.
After lightening the shadows, the front was looking a little noisy so I used Neat Image and got entranced with the semi-plastic look when the values were cranked up a little.
This ended up looking almost HDR-like and the parents just loved the proof which is now being printed in 16 x 20 for the baby's room.

I like it a lot for its complexity but I wonder if the plastic look is overdone.

You like it and the people you took it for like it - so where is the problem?
If you really are unsure about some aspect of it then in reality you are not happy with it. You need to either sit down and think hard about what it is you don't like about it - or move on to the next picture.

i think it looks soft enough where you dont really notice the hdr look too much. when i saw it, i didnt think it looked hdr , just like everything had good texture.
