Looking for a 35mm range finder

Ended up getting an XA. I'll get the first set of chromes back tomorrow. Can't wait to see how they turn out.

*grumble, grumble.. * It'd be nice if the QL17 I bought would get here already. ...

;) It usually takes a while for e-bay to clear the payment to the seller and then you have to wait for them to mail it.

I bought another Metz on the 16th and it looks to get here by Saturday. :/

Oh no. the cat is out of the bag..

We don't want these guys posting over there.

Joking... ok.. kinda... they are welcome just as long as they stay to the "Evil SLRs" sub-forum.

I've been reading in that forum for a few day. Seems pretty cool. Some hardcore retro grouch stuff.

Yeh... unfortunately.. you are right.. lots of grouches .. especially the leica side of that forum. I know I come off as a pessimist (my friends joke with me a lot about it) but man that site really brings in the dark clouds at times.

Kinda sucks but there is a lot of good info there... and quite a few (albeit not as vocal) really exciting photogs there.

I've been lurking there for a while, just to read up and get ideas since I was researching Bessa cameras. I just feel weird about posting there until I actually have used a rangefinder.. (mine's still in the mail)

Other than the smaller size and quiet shutter, what are some benefits of a range finder over an slr? Also can someone explain how focus works on a rangefinder? My xa has a funny little translucent focusing screen and I can't figure out where it come from.

Went a little rangefinder crazy since I first posted this. I got the 2 Canonets for $5 each at the goodwill and picked the XA up at a yard sale for 3$.

Hah.. so that was you that posted in that flickr group...

I have been loving my QL17 so far. I'm working on the 4th roll at the moment (and first color roll). The first 3 have come out pretty good aside from my lack of focusing skills. That little yellow focus patch just seems weird compared to an SLR's split image.. still gotta get used to it, especially in low light.

Yeah that focus patch annoyed me at first but now I've got it wired and can focus it faster than my slr. I'm really enjoying it. I'm carrying it around more than D300! I'm just finishing up my second roll through the XA and have a roll of delta 100 in both canonets as we speak.
