Looking for a compact point and shoot

i found a lot of threads on dslr's but not a lot about current p&s's.
any suggestions??
i'm after something small enough to fit in my pocket and i have a $500 budget...

Without knowing what you are shooting and what your comfort level (or desire) for manual control of the camera and necessity to shoot RAW images, hard to give a recommendation

The G11 will be a bit tight in a pocket or will give a buldge... which might not be a bad thing for certain people ...

G11 is not "pocketable". The LX3 (my choice) is barely.. LX5 just got announce too.

My 9 year old daughter wanted a P&S for B. Day. Fujifilm XP: 5x optical zoom (non extending), video, large screen, shock-water-dust-freeze proof. Very small good little camera. She has it with her always and is taking loads of photographs and mini movies, which is exactly the point of a P&S. Less than $150 at Staples with online discounts and next day free delivery.

The LX5 (the replacement for the wonderful LX3) was just announced.

The LX3 is a wonder of a high end P&S camera but its just barely pocketable with the S90 being smaller (and similar features). I haven't seen an LX5 in person but its something to look into if you haven't already made up your mind.

the G11 is a little big.
the LX3/5 has potential.

the three i've been looking at are Panasonic ZR1, Fuji F200 EXR and the S90.

i think the S90 is going to win.
