Im looking for a good macro lens...i have a 50 mm and 75-300 mm and a 5d body
i was thinking about this one
[ame="http://www.amazon.com/Sigma-17-70mm-2-8-4-5-Autofocus-Digital/dp/B000LJAQ3Q/ref=sr_1_23?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1229911624&sr=8-23"]Sigma Zoom Super Wide Angle AF 17-70mm f/2.8-4.5 DC Macro Autofocus Lens for Canon Digital SLR Cameras[/ame]
seems like it would be pretty good but i dunno... any comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated

That Sigma DC lens has a reduced image size for cameras with an APS-C size sensor (e.g.: Rebel XS or XSi, or EOS 40D or 50D). It won't work with a full-frame sensor like the EOS 5D.

Note that a maximum magnification of 1:2.3 = 0.435x isn't a full 1:1 macro.
For a dedicated 1:1 macro lens, you could consider the EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM.

For a walking-around lens for your EOS 5D, you might consider a 24-70mm f/2.8 zoom: $435 Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG "Macro", $900 Sigma 24-70mm F2.8 EX DG HSM or $1050 EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM.
