I love No. 1, perhaps a tad too much dead space on the left? Or perhaps a bit more space on the right?

I like the first picture, but it would be better if their was someone standing just in the shadows barely visable. At least that is my opinion or idea for the picture.

As you're using a verticle third only you might be better off putting it on a third, rather than in a third, if you see what I mean

Yes I see what you mean, but i was going for the horizontal third with the light

the first one certainly has potential.
i agree with what was said before, something on the right would improve it a great deal. maybe a person standing there, maybe not showing his/her face ... maybe just a shadow.

the first one seems a bit too dark, but that is maybe just my laptop screen. will check again tonight from home.
