I have a Nikon d80 and I have been thinking about getting a macro lens for up close shots. Any suggestions on what I should buy?

Thanks,

Erik

I would by a used AF 105 f/2.8 (not the VR model). It is every bit as sharp as the new lens, half the price and focuses better on a D80.

Supposedly the brand new 60mm micro AF-S is the sharpest micro-nikkor and if you put the R1C1's on it you'll get softer light because of the tighter working distance.

I would also suggest the 105mm AF. I have both the AF and AF VR models and rarely use the VR mode.

Another to look for if you can find it is the 70-180mm AF Micro Nikkor. It is a TRUE macro zoom lens. It's discontinued but still possible to find. It is a collectors item and a fine versital lens. That being said I would still get the 105 1st.

I'm going through the same problem at the moment... I'm almost settled on the Sigma 105mm
