Marketing Through Photo Contests

I've heard about people who have entered a bunch of photo contests and submitted images to a number of magazines to increase their credibility as a photographer. Where are the best places to enter contests and which magazines are the best to submit to?

I'd say that the more 'legitimate' the contest or magazine...the better.

A photography instructor of mine said that his career really took off when he won some contests in his professional association. I believe it was PPOC (Pro. Photographers of Canada).

Something like that would probably be better than winning the cutest dog photo on a web site for dog lovers....for example .

As for magazines...I have no idea. But it would probably be good to get into something that would be recognizable and applicable to your clients. Wedding magazines for wedding clients etc.

Photog mags regularly run photo contests.. PC Photo is the one that comes to mind...
