Metering and focus points with D810

OK if you have autofocus on, (or group or spot focus for that mater,) and you have spot metering selected, how do you move around the spot to meter on? Or is this not possible?

As far as I know, you can only move the spot metering point when single-point AF is selected, then metering is done from the selected focusing point.

Yeah, kinda what I figured. Would be nice if you could separate the two.
