monitor options

I edit in LR and PS on a new MacBook Pro. I'd like to add an external display and I'd be grateful on opinions on adding a mac thunderbolt vs a NEC monitor as NEC seems to be a popular choice for photo editing.
Another option I'm considering is waiting for the next generation of iMac to see what if any improvements they make to their already great displays.

Budget? I'm guessing $1,500+ since your thinking a new iMac.

yes, pretty free with the budget. Am willing to pay to get good quality.

Well if money is not an option, I would wait and see about the iMac, this has been on my list for awhile now.

I never recommend waiting.
Get a NEC display now because the iMac may not have the specs you want and you don't know how long the wait will be.

Once the next gen iMac appears, if it seems worth getting to you, you can always sell the NEC and recoup a sizable portion of its cost.
