Montage.. together or seperate frames?

I was wanting to combine some pieces together and make a 4-6 picture montage of sorts. Basically pics with the same underlying theme that work together. The biggest problem I have is for the section of wall I want to put it. Should I frame each photo seperately and then arrange the montage on the wall or should I instead get a larger frame and arrange them inside 1 large frame and cut the matte to suit? Obviously a single frame will mean the pictures will probably be closer together so there is not huge blank spaces of matte but I can't tell which way would look better.
