Motorized time lapse slider

So, I decided since my life was going pretty good I would complicate it by undertaking a DIY time lapse slider. I am not a electrical or mechanical engineer but I thought "Hey, how hard could it be"

Now I'm pot committed and I need to see it through. I have purchased a arduino micro controller and all the components. I bought a nice slider and I have the program written (hopefully it works!)

Have any of you fine folks tried making your own? I would love to bounce some ideas off of someone who has been there done that.
