It's alright, I'm only a Canon fanboy because it was the first camera I bought. I'm still impressionable

Tell your mom they discontinued the Rebel series and replaced it with a new series - the 1D. Tell her it's your professional calling and if she wants to help you vs. inhibit your professional growth, she needs to get you a Canon 1D.

I couldn't shoot decent pics to save my life... my composition sucked, all my shots were out of focus, lighting was way off, my settings... always wrong. Then I got a 1D. I'm practically a pro now! I already imagine people paying me hundreds of thousands of dollars for my prints. I'm pretty sure I'll be touring Europe shortly doing art shows at the Louvre and stuff. My phone is ringing off the hook (mostly bill collectors but that's not important).

Get the 1D.

OMG this thread is funny... as with almost all canon vs nikon threads

btw.. there was a time that Pentax dominated... then Minolta lead with their first sucessfully marketed autofocus bodies. Before all that, Leica rangefinders was the choice for 35mm format.

Does it matter?

Pentax didn't exactly dominate but they were a force to be rocked with for a while. That was when the cameras were labeled "Honeywell Pentax" (Honeywell was the impoorter).

Oh wow. I'm actually going to sears today maybe to get this canon rebel xs because there's a deal and it comes with a 75-300mm lens and a bag for 700

Not that great a deal. I'd look through the B/S/T threads here for a used one () before I spent $700 on that. If I were in your position I'd go with a used 30D for $400ish and then put the rest towards good glass.

No I'm wrong. It'll actually be 567 because we get a 10% off discount then my grandma is retired from there so that's another 10%.
