Personally, if I were looking strictly point & shoot I would choose an inexepensive Canon over the Fuji... I have the A710 IS which I got for $230 and it takes fantastic pictures, can be used fully manually & is light and easy to handle...
Another excellent choice in that price range (more or less) is the Canon S3 IS.
Why Canon? I like the quality of the pictures that they take, and their image stabilization is better than Fuji's.
But that is me.
