Here is one of my first pictures taken with my new camera. This is my Boston Terrier "BlackJack". I think it might be a bit over-exposed, but what do I know, it's one of my first shots...ever!

May I ask what camera this was taken with?

Thank you. Um, your right i find the whites a bit blown out and overexposed especially above his eyes. The leaf is also distracting to the subject so i would clone it out. Other than that, its a decent shot. Keep shooting!

I don't think it's over exposed all that much, it looks pretty good to me. Composition wise, it's very bland. The dog is centered in frame, there's a leaf that pops in on the right side of the frame... it's what you'll hear folks around here refer to as a "snap shot".

But the shallow depth of field is nice and you caught the pooch giving you a rather cute pose.

All considered, it's a pretty nice first shot! :) Keep playing around, trying different things, and get some good books on photography.

I recommend "Understanding Exposure". You can find it on Amazon.com.

Are his eyes two different colors or is that just how the pic came out? Or is it just me? Is that even possible in dogs...?

See how he has a visible shadow on the ground? You can reduce that with a flash diffuser (if you're using a flash... i assume anyway).

Different colored eyes is entirely possible in dogs. The condition is called Heterochromia. See here

I tried to edit it out of there before anyone noticed lol.

That's been an issue for me ever since tabbed browsing...

Wow I had no ideas animals could get combinations. That's awesome.

Yes, he has one blue eye. When he was born, they were both blue and as he aged one darkened quite a bit.
