The moon has always proven tricky for me to photograph. I still don't see how #2 worked. :)
 
here are the exif:
Exposure Time 10/10000s F-Stop f3.5 ISO Speed 125 Focal Length 24.0mm
in practise, there were fireworks, and I shooted at 1/1000, so those you see aren't stars, but fireworks (I had also a big luck because there were "white" fireworks in that moment)

Have you tried to get moon photos for a long time?
For I did and failed and failed ever so often, until I finally learned (through our very TPF here, I might add and underline :D) that the moon is almost as bright as the sun and therefore exposure needs to only be very short, much shorter than the "rest" of the night would suggest your camera to do.
 
to be completely honest, this has been one of my first moon-shot...

i had the shutter priority because of the fireworks, then I saw that the moon went great in this way...

also the #1 is with shutter priority :wink:
