I like this. Maybe a bit oversharpened (halo) on the tripod head. The fact that he's still smiling suggests you're not overworking him and he may end up enjoying this obsession.

The eyes look tired...maybe the tripod is too heavy for him to carry under hot sun

Probably more of my lack of PP skillz. The eyes were dark in the original, I used a little dodging and burning on them to bring them out a little more trying not to overdo it.
