Natures dark side and flight side

Today at my local park a mallard appeared out of the reeds onto the pond with 10 hatchlings (born that day). There were soon set upon by a flock of gulls. She lost 2 before she led them back into the reeds.
With the first image she had already lost one and was soon to lose an other.
The poor ducklings must have been terrified.
