The d3100 is the replacement for the d3000.

The replacement for the d90 hasn't been announced yet.

The D3100 is the replacement for the D3000, not for the D90. The D90 replacement might be call D7000.

Updated: I just got the D90 a few hours ago.I only got the D90 because it was a good buy and I can get lens and stuff for now. I didn't get the D300 because my dad love taking pictures and uses sometimes but he's old and don't know how to adjust setting yet. D300 have no scene mode or auto mode. I will upgrade to the D90 replacement when it comes out or a few months after or will decide to get something better and keep the D90 for my dad.

My advice is for you to compare the prices difference between "AF" ED lenses and AF-S ED lenses and ask yourself if buying a cheaper body without an autofocus motor is really saving you any $$ in the long run.

I'd recommend a d300 or d90.
