Hello All,
I need some suggestion from experts here regarding lens.
I have Nikon d7100 with 18-105 Kit len and 50mm 1.8G prime lens
recently I was doing a shoot and felt the need for zoom, so thought of going for zoom lens.
Here is what I have narrowed down please suggest me. I will shoot mostly indoor. i have Yongnuo 568ex
1, Nikon 70-300mm VR
2.Nikon 28-300mm VR (Buying this after selling my 18-105)
3.Nikon 18-300mm VR(Buying this after selling my 18-105)

Since they're all variable aperture zooms and relatively slow, especially at the long end, none of them are especially well suited for indoor work, but hands down the best of the lot is the 70-300.

Nikon's 70-300 VR is superb, has great optics, excellent VR function. Tamron also makes a 70-300 VC that is very very good as well. Either one, you'll be happy with.

I have the same 18-105 and a 50/1.8G and a d7000 (I also have a d600).
But I would add the 70-300 VR for indoor work.
You'll find the 70 / 85 a good focal length to work with in addition to 200 and 300 for close up portraiture with a nice and sharp lens .. assuming you are not too close.
It's also good for outside work when you have a lot more space.

FYI you won't get much for the 18-105 .. normally selling for $100-150 on eBay.

..thought of going for zoom lens. I will shoot mostly indoor.
What kind of photography needs 300mm for indoors?

I would love to purchase your 18-105 if the price is within my budget.

When I was doing some studio work with a local pro they would use a 300/2.8 for close up portraiture to blow out the background and get a face/shoulder closeup.

70-300 VR all day. Great prices can be had. But it's going to be f5.6 on the long end, if that's cool with you.

Thank you'll...I asked the same question to Ken Rockwell, and he is suggesting 18-300mm. When Spoke with one of the product specialist they are recommending me 16-300mm...confuseddddd......

I say the 70-300mm VR. It will work good with the rest of the kit you have.

I will explain
The 18-300mm and 28-300mm are superzoom lenses, they give great focal flexibility but the drawback is that they don't produce sharp images, not that they produce very bad images but they are definitely softer then other non superzoom lenses.
Nikon 70-300mm VR is s lens designed as an affordable long range zoom lens but its focal range (starting at 70mm) isn't as flexible as the other two lenses but it does produce sharper images.
My vote too is hands down for the Nikon 70-300mm VR, used this lens for a while and was really impressed with it.
For what it cost this lens is excellent value for money.

You essentially have to determine what you are using photography for.

Just to capture moments in life and the convenience of a "all-in-one" zoom.

Or are you looking for more out of photography.
Such as doing any type of photo shoot, etc. If you are then as you gain more experience you'll start noticing the significant shortcomings of the "all-in-one" lenses. It's like anything else in life, anything "all-in-one" does everything but doesn't do any one particular thing really well.

Such as your 50mm lens. A specific lens with specific qualities.

Thank you alll....you all made it very simple for me to decide what zoom lens I should consider..
I spoke with Adorama product specialist, they wanted me to consider looking for Tamron sp 70-300mm f/4-5.6 di vc usd...which one shall I go for ...
FYI...i have Nikon D7100 ..please let me know...

Why not pick up a used 70-200 VR I? Optically it is better than any of those lenses. If I had to pick though, I'd get that 70-300 Nikon, it is good value... still, not nearly a great lens, but decent.

I do not have budget to got 70-200mm 2.8...

Makes sense. I guess I personally would just keep saving money to get the better lens. If you're doing a ton of indoor shooting you will not be very happy with slower glass, IMO.
