    Hello,

    Next year, when I am a Junior in High School, I will be taking Photography Class. On the sheet I got, it says that I need a "single-lens reflex, 35mm manually operated camera".

    What does this mean and where can I get a cheap one. Any camera recommendations?

    Thanks a lot guys!:thumbup: :hug::

    It's just a 35mm film SLR ;) ebay is full of quality used 35mm cameras.

    Canon AE-1 with a 50mm 1.8

    That's my suggestion and I'm sticking with it. ;)

    Minota X-700
    Pentax K1000
    Olympus OM4
    Nikon FM-2
    Ricoh KR-10

    Just some off the top of my head. And just get a 50mm lense for it.

    Canon AE-1, great camera. Old, but a VERY nice camera.

    I would recommend a Pentax K1000. That's what I started on and I still use it from time to time.

    pentax k1000, canon ae-1, or Nikon FE or FM.

    Those are just a few of the most sturdy and most popular basic manual 35mm SLRs. Keep in mind that with manual film cameras the camera has little if nothing to do with the quality of your images. The lenses matter much more.

    Some like the AE-1, and FE have automated exposure. I would think they want you to have a fully manual camera body. I started out with a Nikon F and a Nikkormat FTn. Both are great, rugged manual cameras. The used market is full of them. Most cameras that age have meter errors or meters that don't work. A handheld meter along with one of these old bricks will make a great teaching tool. You will learn the basics in a way that will stick with you forever. If you choose a Nikon, the lenses you use on it will mount and still be of use on all the newer Nikon bodies.

    i'll second the FTn, i had one and it is definitely a brick (my meter didnt work either though). In my photo class (which also required a 'fully manual' 35mm camera), many people used auto cameras, they only had to be able to go fully manual. I've found that in most cases teachers dont mean completely manual exposure as well.
