Hello! My name is Jake, and I look forward to my time here!
Well I wouldn't say I'm "New" to the camera scene but I am new to camera Collecting. I am however a collector of Vintage Military Memorabilia from Uniforms to helmets to medals, patches, and gear. And while I've always had a love of vintage cameras, never bought one until today! The reason for this sudden quest to collect cameras is a split off from my Military collection, I've decided to set up a display for Vietnam War era War Correspondents as I love to read about them and look at their pictures. some of my favorites are Denby Fawcett, Tim Bowden, Catherine Leroy, Dickey Chappel, Joe Galloway, Dana Stone and so forth. I find it fascinating that many of them had no idea what they were doing when they got there, having just bought their first cameras and not knowing how to load the film.
Anyway my first camera for this display is a Yashica J3 which is in beautiful condition externally and was owned by a Navy Sailor who bought it during Vietnam. However the Shutter is Messed up and the self timer is stuck down (was down when I got it) and it Occasionally ticks.
I'm hoping that in the next few weeks I can also pick up a Minolta SRT101, as well as the later SRT200 and SRT201 even though they are post vietnam. also hoping to pick up a 2nd fully functioning Yashica J3.
Here's some pictures of my J3
Anyways that's all for now folks!
