    Huge fan of Miyasaki's work, but I haven't seen the most recent one yet. I admire how they still insist every frame to be painted in water color, but I still don't see improvement in the frame rate. It just degrades the quality of the animation from it's incredible craftsmanship and content.

    I wouldn't judge the frame rate by the youtube - I think it is a bit stuttery itself so I would wait for a proper good version to appear. But yes they do keep to a very high quality of finish in each frame that really gives a depth to their animation that we often don't see in many others. The other neat thing is they tend to avoid that glaring oddity of having background frames and foreground action components being of slightly different colouring/tone that one can often see in many western animations
