New Orleans Shots

Chris, if they still exist, some shots in the areas where tourists are warned not to go would reveal some of the "truth" about NOLA. Businesses & even residences behind bared windows & doors. As I said, IF they still exist. Pretty scary places for a Canadian not used to such violent environments.

Ron, the places you mention are the places I tend to go and are the places I've gone in the past. it really disgusts me to walk down in the french quarter... as you look at the main streets there, they are PERFECT, everything is back in order.... buildings fixed, it looks as though nothing happened there... but if you literally go 2 or 3 blocks over, you see what Katrina really did... but it also allows you to see what the government cared about... they fixed the tourist area, and that was it... the rest of the city is left to volunteer workers... it's very sad... I've sat for hours on front porches with NO residents, and to hear the stories of how no one is willing to help them because of their ecnomical status, really is disgusting... and thats why I go down to help... because there are so many people who arent getting it.... my first trip down there i helped rebuild a house for a family who was living in a house that had no roof, because a HUGE tree fell on the house... there was an empty FEMA trailer right next to them, but they couldnt live in it, because the inspector hadn't come to inspect the trailer yet... it's disgusting

New Orleans is a retarded creation... A city below sea level holding back the sea... They deserve what they get...
The great soup bowl..... "Oh, I was SHOCKED when my house flooded..." Yeah? Do some research on gravity and the flow of water....

I totally agree, I mean WTF? You think the government taking half of your next pay check to give to flood victims is right? They prolly shouldnt be living there!!! Now that we are on the topic no one is poor in the United States(except mentally handicapped, this does not apply to them). I drive through the poor part of my city, and everyone is fat. NO ONE is starving. So its ok for my government to take money from my paychecks so my "poor" neighbor can buy his 3rd flat screen T.V.?

Cant wait for the next few years of Socialism, with Obama...

Nice pictures btw, im pretty noob on Photography, but i like the DOF in the lightpost. On number 1 is the white balance off? looks kinda yellow....

Thanks rfos. Yeah, definitely a possibility. If it looks wrong to anyone else too it would probably be worth changing just so it doesn't look wrong, regardless of if it is or not.

As much as I admire Chris' humanitarian volunteer work, I think it is a big mistake to rebuild NOLA because IT WILL happen again & it is the masses that will suffer. The French quarter, the market & Bourbon st. will get restored BUT?

ok, i think we are getting a bit off track here, i thought politics was not something encouraged here. there are lots of others places for that dicussion.
the fellow is asking for photo help.

I agree with you!

Warning sent to the political genii...

;)

Please people, continue talking about photography!

yes, i totally agree, it will happen again.. i mean look at this past summer... not as bad, but gustav... but for me, rebuilding homes isn't about making new orleans whole again, its about instilling hope in the the lives of those who lost all hope... its about letting them know that there are human beings out there who can and will help them... i'm pretty crappy when it comes to handy work, but over the past 3 years i've volunteered with a local roofing company, just so when i go down to NO, I can give someone a new roof, because it might give them a bit of hope
