I read a decent review in a magazine concerning this lens, seems like a good alternative (in terms of price) to the canon (sans IS). however i havent been able to see the new version on very many websites. You can tell by the minor visual changes they made to it, and theres a lot less gold unlike other tamrons. has this lens even been released yet? has any one used/seen it? the picture on the tamron site even seems to be the old version.

wtf?

You'd think that the official site would have the correct image of their newest lens... Unless im missing something here.

I've been shooting with it all summer on Canon DSLRs. Image quality is great. AF is pretty old school: loud and slow and searches in dim light. Not a big deal for me because I'm usually manually focusing at these focal lengths, but if you need decent low light, fast AF better go with the Canon.

Yeah the auto focus is the one thing thats holding me back a bit. ive shot L before and my oh my is that USM quick. but its pretty close to half the price of the non IS 2.8

Look at the Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 HSM Macro:) It does a great job for being half the price.

I've got this lens. I really like it. Focus in low light isn't always the best, but it is still acceptable, and in brighter light it's very nice.

 The Sigma HSM is very fast.
