Newbie here... :) Can anyone recommend a good travel sized lighting solution?

What kind of models are you shooting anyway? and are they being compensated?
Glamour and nude figure models. They are being compensated, but the Central American rates would appear pretty low to US standards of course...

Logan, from everything you've said, I'd guess that you're going round all the poor countries of South America to take cheap pornographic pictures to sell to a website.
Sounds like the kind of idea some of my mates would have in the pub - a holiday that pays for itself and we get to see naked people....

No offence meant if I'm wrong!

No offence meant either way - we're a friendly bunch here. Dicussions frequently are passionate, but we all try and be reasonable with each other.

Before I sound like a member of the looney Christian right, I want to point out that I have taken glamour and art nude pictures before. All my events have been based around a mutual agreement where a balance existed between the photographer and the model - my concern was that you are asking a forum which also happens to include children, for advice in how to perform an act which would probably be deemed slightly, or even perhaps very, exploitative. The manner of asking was circumvent enough to make me suspicious of a hidden motive. Hey - I'm a cynic.

I certainly don't object to the existence and manufacture of legal pornographic pictures as a matter of principle, however - and I'm making an assumption here - I don't think the populace of this forum (minors included) would condone the exploitation of indigent peoples for the rather sordid gratification of middle aged w$%kers.

Where's that soapbox icon....?

I understand and respect your position, but please allow me to clarify mine.

(1) Out of respect for the forum, which I acknowledge that I do not know the demographics of, I never went into details as to the photography nor the methods *because* there could be children present. Furthermore, I never even put a URL in my profile for advertising purposes for that reason...my original question was an honest one.

(2) I am not shooting pornographic pictures, at least in my opinion. The context I'm going for goes no further than Playboy style pictorials. I know some consider that pornographic, but I don't, and I would be surprised if professional photographers did.

(3) This isn't an idea that just popped out of thin air where I decided I wanted to go on a vacation and maybe I can pay for it by taking pictures. I've worked the other end for about two years. I'm a broker for such 'content', so I basically sell other photographers' photographs/productions to my clients so that everyone benefits. Now, I want to try shooting for myself...

(4) As for the exploitation issue, I'm sure everyone will have differing opinions. But, (a) I'll be paying the models far more than they could make locally, (b) most of the models will be 'working girls' who have already chosen a life of 'exploitation', and (c) if I find a really great model, there's always a chance of bringing her back to the States for work...

(5) This really is an opportunity for me to also explore my interest in photography, and I want to give an artistic touch to the photographs if I can.

Forget film... any digicam will do.

Pretty much everything will look expensive, especially if it's silvery and shiny...

In terms of quality, any Canon's G series of 3+ will do. Later Nikon Coolpix models too...

Hmm... maybe a used 10D? It's around 600 bucks, you can scratch it, put ugly tape on it... or something...

Don't get mugged! Spiritual journey LOL

Doesn't look cheap at all though.

Thanks for your help...Yeah, I think the cheapest 10d I'm going to get will be around $700. I might should just stick to what I have...it actually does shoot good pictures IF the light is good. And for the record, I never said "spiritual journey"; I said "philosophical/martial journey" and the trip will indeed serve that purpose. ;)

Plus, I figure on the low side, I'll shoot an average of 2 models per week with around 500 pics per model minimum (just going by past experience)

lol...just how this biz is; clients order a minimum of 300 pics of the same model usually. If the model is phenominal, the client might want 10s of thousands of the same model. Like I said before: this market is very different than traditional photography.
