Newbie looking for a lense

Hi,

I have a Nikon F55 camera with a 28-80mm lense. I am looking to purchase a 70-300mm lense online (I live in the bush with no local camera shop). What information do I look for when purchasing a new lense? I want to make sure that the lense will fit my camera before buying it.

fortunately most nikkor lenses fit the modern nikon cameras. Every autofocus nikon lens should fit your f55. as far as what to look for when purchasing a new lens, my best advice is to look through reviews. alot of reviews. fredmiranda.com/reviews is a great place to find reviews on lenses, so is photographyreview.com . see what the positive things are on the lenses and the negative things as well. if you can overlook the negative aspects (usually you can overlook some, unless they are major like the lens is unsharp or extremely slow at focusing) then you might want to look into buying that lens.
