Newbie Photographer

Hey all, I'm totally new to photography, having never taken it seriously in the past. I was given a Nikon FM as a gift when I was still a teenager, but I wasn't big on taking photographs so it sat in a box and never got used. Last week I bought myself a Nikon D40 and have been using it non-stop since, hope that with time, and with the help of those more experienced members of this forum, I can learn how to shoot just like the pros.

My interest in photography started while I was in Afghanistan, on tour with the Canadian military. I saw many beautiful things while I was there, but sadly, I didn't own a camera, nor did I know anything about photography. Unfortunately I will never be going back there so I'll never get the chance to shoot the unique landscape they have, but my interest in photography hasn't died. I hope to get some good (and bad...) feedback on my efforts, so if you see something you like or don't like, please comment!
