What do you guys think of this?

nightday.jpg

That looks pretty cool
Just cant seem to see what the 2 lines underneath the brigde are......clone them out maybe?
But the overall pic looks great :)

How do you go about doing something like this?

yeah this was my idea. i hope no one else has done this before..
i took the pic at night first (its the chicago river) with a 15 second exposure
and then again the next day at about the same spot
(i took like 5 in the day to make sure i'd have the alignment right)
and so i put em on top of each other in photoshop and aligned them as best as i could (if u notice, its a little off)
and then just did a gradient where one pic blends into the other

Well at this res the join is certainly not noticable. I love it and I'm trying to dream up a suitable location in Dublin so I can do it too.

This is a really cool effect that I am considering trying. Can you explain how you used a gradient to blend the pictures? thanks

Ok thanks a lot. I have mastered layers (atleast the basics) and am starting on masks

Where the picture blends together, it looks really dark and it kind of attracts the eye there.

Try taking two exposures and layering one on top and just erasing the edge with a soft eraser. I think this will cut down on the dark blending area.

EDIT: Oh, I see why it's dark there. There was a boat there. My bad.
Try doing it again with out a boat. :p

Ok thanks a lot. I have mastered layers (atleast the basics) and am starting on masks

Put light picture on top of dark as a new layer.
Click on the new layer to select it.
Go to the menu Layer/mask/reveal all.
Click on the mask (little white box initially)
Select a big brush and set the hardness to 0
Select black colour.
Paint on to the mask (note this is not painting on to the layer)
If you make a mistake paint white onto the black area of the mask.

You can use other tools such as gradient, blur and opacity on the mask to help with blending.
