I may be buying this soon, so will this work well as a good low light telephoto?

    **EDIT**
Why may someone buy the 105mm over the 200mm? I am considering the 200mm now.

I guess if it 105mm or 200m can do what you need to do, get it.

Because the 200mm lens will make a distance object appear to be closer than the 105mm.

What 105mm and 200mm lenses in particular are you referring to?

200 would allow you more comfortable working distance from thing you don't want to disturb, like butterflies, bees and dinosaurs.

Use the "Nikon Lens Simulator" to see what the difference between 105mm and 200mm would look like: Nikon | Imaging Products | NIKKOR Lenses Simulator

If your looking at the AF DC-NIKKOR 105mm f/2D, it will perform nicely in low light and the De-focus Control function is sweet. It's a great portrait lens.
